"How wonderful is that nobody need wait a single moment before starting to improve the world"~Anne Frank
No matter where you are in the world when someone does something to challenge a peoples' way of thinking, they will either be greeted with praises or with people carrying pitchforks and torches.
My most recent pieces are challenging the social norms we and the rest of society have deemed ‘acceptable’ or ‘normal’. It has been these labels that I have attempted to see these expectations created toxic masculinity/femininity. This series is called Society: The Never Satisfied Critique. For these photos, I took two photos for each of the double standards that I chose to challenge, The Shielded Heart and The Complexity of Beauty. Once the photos were uploaded I combined the images and did minor editing in photoshop. These edits included cropping, blending the images into one picture, and adding text to the photos with words that can be associated with double standards that are applicable. My biggest inspirations for these photos were the socially constructed ‘norms’ that try to stop or challenge progressive thinking and social justice.

Throughout my career, I will be continuing to challenge others' way of thinking, and my own. I fell in love with portrait photography, when I started with graduation portraits and I am now starting to learn about maternity and newborn portraits. I will use my photos and writing to tell the stories for those who cannot speak for themselves, and I will continue having others question their thoughts and opinions. Change does not come fast or easy, but even the tiniest of baby steps is progress in itself. My art may not change the world, but if it can change opinions, my role as an artist will be complete.
